Cruise Cabins to Avoid

By The Fathom Fares Team · Published Aug 29, 2026 · Updated Oct 4, 2026 · Cabins and Staterooms

A cabin is worth avoiding when its location or layout conflicts with what you need. There is no universal bad cabin list for every ship. Check the exact room before paying for a view, quiet surroundings, convenient access or a particular sleeping arrangement.

Investigate nearby noise sources

Inspect the deck above, below and alongside it. Pools, gyms, entertainment venues, service areas and busy entrances are possible sources to investigate. Their presence does not prove that a particular room will be noisy.

Search recent reports by ship and cabin number. Multiple consistent reports are more useful than a general claim that every connecting or aft cabin is bad. For the limits of those reports, see cabin noise and soundproofing.

Confirm the view and layout

Read any obstruction disclosure and look for photos of the actual room or category. A balcony can face an interior neighborhood rather than the sea. A neighboring room's photo may have a different obstruction or layout.

Check whether extra beds, connecting arrangements or accessibility features change the usable space. Confirm approved occupancy for your party rather than relying on a picture of a room prepared for two.

Match motion and access needs

If you are motion sensitive, compare central locations away from the bow and access to a horizon view. No position prevents seasickness for everyone. The motion related cabin guide explains what to check.

Map the route to lifts, dining and the facilities you need. Confirm accessibility requirements directly with the line; a room described as convenient in a review may not meet your needs.

Know what you are choosing

A guarantee fare lets the line assign the room under its terms. If an unwanted location would spoil the trip, compare the cost of selecting an acceptable room instead of counting on a change aboard.
