What Is the Best Cabin Location if You Get Seasick?

If you are prone to motion sickness, start by comparing cabins toward the center of the ship and away from the bow. A lower central location is worth considering, but no room guarantees that you will not feel sick. Conditions and personal sensitivity can outweigh a small location difference.

Do not choose by deck number alone

Use the actual ship's deck plan to locate the room. A deck number on one ship is not equivalent to the same number on another. Check the room's position along the ship and what surrounds it.

CDC guidance recommends avoiding locations with greater motion, such as the bow, and notes that looking at the horizon can help. It does not establish one universal best cabin or a fixed ranking for every pair of rooms.

An outside view can help

An interior room does not provide a horizon view. An oceanview or outward facing balcony may make that view easier to access, but the cabin's position still matters. A balcony facing an interior neighborhood is a different product from one facing the sea.

If you choose an interior room, identify a public space with an outside view that you can use when it is open and safe. Paying for a balcony is a comfort choice, not a medical guarantee.

Check noise and access too

Look above, below and alongside the cabin for activity venues or service areas. A room chosen for motion can still have unwanted noise. Search specific cabin reports and compare the deck location tradeoffs.

Consider how far you would walk to meals and the spaces you plan to use. Accessibility needs require their own confirmation with the line rather than a general recommendation for a central room.

Prepare a prevention plan

Passenger reports on Reddit describe different results in forward, central and aft cabins. They cannot predict your response. If you have a history of motion sickness, speak with a clinician before departure about suitable prevention and medication side effects.
