Perfect Day at CocoCay Guide

By The Fathom Fares Team · Published Aug 29, 2026 · Updated Sep 5, 2026 · Ports and Excursions

Perfect Day at CocoCay is Royal Caribbean's private destination in the Bahamas. You can have a beach day without buying an excursion: included beaches, loungers, umbrellas, Oasis Lagoon and several food venues cover the basics. Thrill Waterpark, Coco Beach Club, Hideaway Beach, ziplining and cabanas are paid choices. Celebrity also visits on selected sailings.

What a Private Island Day Actually Looks Like

Unlike a normal port stop, there is no town to explore and no local culture beyond what the cruise line has built. The entire day happens inside the island's zones, and the ship typically docks right at CocoCay rather than tendering, so getting off in the morning is usually simple and fast. The CocoCay port page lists which upcoming sailings include a stop here.

The Beach and Pool Zones

Most of the beachfront and a large freshwater pool area are included in a standard cruise fare, no extra charge required to spend the day in the water or on a lounge chair. These zones tend to be the busiest part of the island, especially on a ship with a full passenger count, so claiming chairs early in the morning makes a real difference.

The Water Park

A dedicated water park area is home to most of the slides, a wave pool, and family friendly play structures, and it requires paid admission unless your booking specifically includes access. If your family cruise stops here, this is usually the zone that keeps kids busiest for the longest stretch of the day.

Slides and other paid attractions

Daredevil's Tower is inside Thrill Waterpark, not a separate thrill zone. The zip line is a different paid activity. Check each activity's height, weight and age rules before purchasing, particularly when one child in the group may not qualify.

What to Pack for the Day

Since almost everything happens outdoors on sand or in the water, pack reef safe sunscreen, water shoes for the rockier patches, and a dry bag or waterproof pouch if you are bringing a phone near the water park attractions. Towels are usually provided or can be brought from the ship, so check your specific cruise line's policy before you decide whether to pack your own.

Cabanas and Paid Upgrades

Beyond the included zones, CocoCay offers paid cabanas and a more upscale beach club style area with its own pool, bar, and quieter beach frontage. These upgrades are popular enough that they often sell out well before sailing, so booking online in advance, rather than waiting to decide on board, is the standard advice for anyone who wants one. What costs extra on a cruise covers how these kinds of add ons typically get priced relative to the base fare.

Planning Ahead

You do not need reservations for the included beach day. Book only the paid activities you want, checking whether a ticket covers the day or a particular activity time. Is a cruise worth it touches on how included days like this affect the overall value of a cruise fare, and if your itinerary also includes a very different kind of private island, our Great Stirrup Cay guide and Half Moon Cay guide cover how those compare.

Royal Caribbean's eligible onboard drink and wifi packages extend to CocoCay under their terms. If you visit with Celebrity, check Celebrity's own package details. Compare the full price for everyone in your party, including companions who need paid area access even if they will not ride slides.

Frequently asked questions

Is Perfect Day at CocoCay included in the cruise fare?

The beach and main pool areas are generally included in a standard cruise fare, so you can spend the day in the water or on the sand without paying extra. Specific attractions like the water park slides, the zip line, and cabana rentals often carry their own cost or require a reservation, so check what your specific cruise package includes before assuming everything on the island is free.

Do you need to book CocoCay add ons in advance?

It is strongly recommended. Cabanas, the more exclusive beach club areas, and admission to paid areas tend to sell out, sometimes weeks before a sailing, especially during busy seasons. Booking through the cruise line's website ahead of time gives you far better odds than trying to arrange something once you are already on board.

Does the ship dock at CocoCay or use tenders?

Ships generally dock directly at CocoCay rather than anchoring offshore, which means getting on and off the island is usually quicker and simpler than at a tender port. This also means the start of your day is less dependent on weather and sea conditions compared to islands where tender boats are required to reach shore.

Is CocoCay good for a family with young kids?

Yes for most families. The included beach and pool areas suit almost any age, and the water park has family sections with gentler slides alongside the taller thrill rides for older kids and adults. The main challenge is logistics rather than content, since popular attractions can have lines and some extras need advance booking to guarantee a spot.
