Bermuda Cruises From NYC: Which Itinerary Should You Pick?

By The Fathom Fares Team · Published Aug 28, 2026 · Updated Oct 1, 2026 · Cruising From US Home Ports

A Bermuda cruise from the New York area can give you an overnight on the island without a flight. Compare the hours docked before the ship or fare: a five night cruise does not mean five days in Bermuda, and an overnight is not included on every itinerary. Then compare Manhattan, Brooklyn and Cape Liberty in New Jersey, check the season, and price the full trip.

Count port hours, not just cruise nights

A shorter trip can suit someone with limited vacation time. A longer trip may give you more time in Bermuda, additional sea days or another destination. The number of nights alone does not tell you which.

Here is a real itinerary checked on October 1, 2026. Royal Caribbean lists Independence of the Seas departing Cape Liberty on July 3, 2027 for five nights. It has a full sea day on July 4, docks at Royal Naval Dockyard from 9 a.m. July 5 to 5 p.m. July 6, has another sea day on July 7, and returns July 8. That is 32 scheduled hours in port, one overnight and two full sea days.

A longer cruise need not give you longer ashore. Virgin lists six night Valiant Lady departures on October 7 and 13, 2026 from New York. Its itinerary shows Dockyard from 8 a.m. on day four until 2 p.m. on day five, or 30 scheduled hours. These are dated examples on different sailings, not a rule about either line.

Compare the line's daily schedule for your own date. An arrival day and a departure day can count as two Bermuda days even when the ship leaves early on the second. Use the ship's announced all aboard time, which can be earlier than its published departure.

Ships and departure terminals

Norwegian's March 2026 announcement describes four and seven day Bermuda round trips on Norwegian Luna from New York between April and October 2027. Royal Caribbean lists Bermuda trips on Independence of the Seas from Cape Liberty. Carnival has announced Carnival Firenze replacing Carnival Venezia in Manhattan from May 27, 2027, with Bermuda among its routes. These are deployment examples, not promises that every ship sails every week.

Virgin's current New York homeport is Brooklyn Cruise Terminal. Manhattan, Brooklyn and Cape Liberty need different transfers and parking plans, so confirm the terminal in your current booking documents. Our terminal comparison explains the locations.

Season and beach weather

Spring through autumn gives you the main range of Bermuda choices from this area; individual schedules can extend beyond it. Bermuda is in the Atlantic, not the Caribbean. Summer is warmer for beach plans than early spring, and no month guarantees swimming weather.

Atlantic hurricane season runs June through November. A storm can change the route or cancel the Bermuda stop, even when the ship still sails. If visiting this particular island is the whole reason for your trip, consider that risk before choosing the date. Our skipped port guide explains what an itinerary change can mean.

Getting around from Royal Naval Dockyard

King's Wharf and Heritage Wharf are berths at Royal Naval Dockyard on Bermuda's west end. They are not downtown Hamilton. Public ferries connect Dockyard with Hamilton, while service to St. George's depends on the seasonal timetable. Check the current schedule and service alerts rather than a screenshot from a previous summer.

For Horseshoe Bay, route 7 serves Dockyard and the south shore beaches. Taxis and beach shuttles are other options. Check the current route and return service before setting out.

Bermuda's Shorelink app sells digital public bus and ferry fares. Buy the fare you need, then activate it when you are ready to board and show it to the operator or crew. Public transport passes can cover buses and public ferries. A cruise line's own ferry is a separate service, so confirm whether your ship offers one and which days it operates.

Recent Reddit passengers described enjoying time in Hamilton or St. George's during an overnight, but also reported crowded beach stops and limited ferry days. Those are trip reports, not a schedule for your voyage. Plan the longer outing on the full day and leave a return buffer on the day the ship departs.

A useful two day plan

With one full day and part of the next, choose one main outing each day. Hamilton by ferry and a south shore beach make different trips; adding St. George's and the caves to the same short day can turn the visit into a series of transfers.

An overnight can allow dinner ashore, but check ship access arrangements and the transport home. The ship remaining in port does not mean public buses or ferries run all night. For a short final day, staying nearer Dockyard reduces the distance you need to cover before all aboard.

What to include in the price

Compare the same number of travelers and cabin type, with taxes included. Add gratuities, terminal parking or transfers, and the drinks or dining you want. Ashore, allow for transport, meals and any beach equipment rather than assuming every useful activity is included in the fare.

There is no fixed cheap month or dependable price floor for this route. Our total cruise cost guide helps compare the extras. How these examples are calculated

One lowest eligible advertised cabin fare per sailing; USD per person with taxes included, based on two guests sharing one cabin. Observations must be no more than two days old. Examples are the lowest matching totals in our catalog, not a claim about the entire market. Prices are rounded in our website export; availability and optional extras require confirmation.

Travel documents

Some US citizens can use accepted citizenship evidence and photo identification on an eligible cruise returning to the same US port. The cruise line and destination can set additional requirements. A passport book also covers an international flight home after an emergency; a passport card does not. Check our cruise passport guide against your citizenship and exact itinerary before booking.

Frequently asked questions

Does every Bermuda cruise stay overnight?

No. Check the arrival and departure times for the exact sailing. A Bermuda call can be a daytime visit, one overnight or a longer stay. An itinerary listing two days in port may still leave only part of the second day ashore, and the ship's all aboard deadline takes priority over the departure time.

Should I choose five nights or seven nights?

Choose by usable time in Bermuda and how much time you want aboard. A five night cruise may include one overnight, while a seven night route can add island time, another port or more sea days. Read the daily schedule and compare the full price rather than assuming the longer trip always provides more Bermuda sightseeing.

Can I explore Bermuda without a ship excursion?

Yes. Public ferries, buses, taxis and beach shuttles can support independent visits from Dockyard. Check the seasonal timetable and service alerts before setting out, and leave time to return before all aboard. A line's private ferry has its own schedule and eligibility, so do not assume a public transit pass covers it.

Is a Bermuda cruise a Caribbean cruise?

Bermuda lies in the North Atlantic, outside the Caribbean. Some longer cruises visit both areas, but a New York round trip calling only at Bermuda does not. Weather and water temperatures differ by season, so use Bermuda's forecast for packing and beach plans rather than applying a Caribbean forecast to the island.
