Where Do Cruises From New York Go?

By The Fathom Fares Team · Published Aug 28, 2026 · Updated Sep 5, 2026 · Cruising From US Home Ports

New York area cruises visit Bermuda, Florida and the Bahamas, the Caribbean, and Canada and New England. Transatlantic crossings are another option. Routes change with the season, and departures use Manhattan, Brooklyn or Cape Liberty in Bayonne, New Jersey; the New York label alone does not identify your terminal.

Bermuda and northern routes

Bermuda sailings are a choice in the warmer part of the year. Some include an overnight stay, giving you more time ashore than a single daytime call. Check the actual docking and departure times rather than assuming every Bermuda itinerary stays overnight.

Canada and New England itineraries offer ports such as Halifax and Saint John on seasonal schedules. Choose the places you want to visit; a fall departure cannot guarantee peak foliage at every stop. Bring clothing for the forecast instead of packing as though every cruise is a beach trip.

Florida, Bahamas and the Caribbean

A route visiting Port Canaveral, Nassau and a private Bahamian destination is different from a voyage reaching Puerto Rico or islands farther south. Count the sea days and named ports, particularly on winter sailings.

Royal Caribbean's announced winter season spanning 2026 into 2027 includes Odyssey of the Seas from Cape Liberty to Nassau and Perfect Day at CocoCay. Our winter sailing guide explains cold sea days, indoor facilities and the distinction between Bahamas and Caribbean routes.

Transatlantic crossings

Cunard's Queen Mary 2 offers scheduled crossings between New York and Southampton. The crossing is a holiday with consecutive sea days, rather than a series of Caribbean port visits. Fathom Fares does not track or quote Cunard.

Our transatlantic guide explains the experience. Compare the end points and travel home, especially if the voyage is one way. Check the documents required for your citizenship and itinerary.

Terminal, airport and hotel choice

Manhattan's terminal is on the Hudson, Brooklyn's is in Red Hook and Cape Liberty is in Bayonne. Choose a hotel around the actual departure location. Newark airport is a practical option to compare first for Cape Liberty; for the city terminals, compare JFK, LaGuardia and Newark with the ground journey included.

Brooklyn has NYC Ferry service to Red Hook/Atlantic Basin beside the terminal. It can suit a stay near a Manhattan boarding point, but a direct car may suit heavy bags or an airport journey better. See our terminal comparison for the ferry and rail details.

Drivers should compare terminal parking with a return car service. Our NYC parking and arrival guide covers rates and boarding logistics without assuming every terminal has the same access.

How these examples are calculated

One lowest eligible advertised cabin fare per sailing; USD per person with taxes included, based on two guests sharing one cabin. Observations must be no more than two days old. Examples are the lowest matching totals in our catalog, not a claim about the entire market. Prices are rounded in our website export; availability and optional extras require confirmation.

Frequently asked questions

Can I sail from the New York area in winter?

Yes. Winter departures include Bahamas and Caribbean choices, depending on the current ship schedule. Royal Caribbean has announced Odyssey of the Seas from Cape Liberty for the winter season spanning 2026 into 2027. Read the named ports and sea days, and choose indoor ship facilities you would enjoy during the colder parts of the voyage.

Does a New York departure mean Manhattan?

No. Manhattan, Brooklyn and Cape Liberty in New Jersey all serve the New York cruise market. The terminal in your current booking documents decides where to go. Confirm it before buying a transfer, booking parking or choosing a hotel, especially if you are using a fare listing that groups more than one location.

Do Bermuda cruises always stay overnight?

No. An overnight is a feature of some itineraries, not a rule for every departure. Read the arrival and departure times to see how much time you actually have ashore. If an evening on the island matters to you, select a sailing that explicitly includes it rather than assuming it follows from the destination name.
