Nassau Cruise Port Guide
Nassau's cruise terminal is at Prince George Wharf in downtown Nassau. Bay Street, the Straw Market and Parliament Square are nearby, so you can explore downtown without buying an excursion. Atlantis and Cable Beach need a separate transport plan. Choose an outing that fits your ship's return deadline, mobility and the current safety advice.
What you can reach on foot
Bay Street has shops and the Straw Market, while Parliament Square is another downtown stop. Junkanoo Beach is west of the port near downtown. Check your route from the terminal gate; walking times depend on your pace and the part of the beach you choose.
Passenger discussions describe heat, uneven sidewalks and differing experiences with beach crowds and vendors. Those reports help you plan water, footwear and walking breaks; they do not establish that every route is comfortable or safe.
Atlantis and Cable Beach
Atlantis is on Paradise Island across the harbour, connected to Nassau by a road bridge. Use the taxi stand in the port's Arrivals Plaza and confirm the total fare, passenger count and return arrangement before leaving. Do not confuse the short distance across the water with the walking route over the bridge.
The port advertises a Paradise Island ferry, but confirm that it is operating and check return departures before relying on it. Allow for the walk from the landing to your destination.
Transport does not include Atlantis resort access. Its current instructions require a Day Pass for visitors using Aquaventure and restricted outdoor areas. Book the correct date and check its exclusions; dining costs extra, and the resort takes card payments rather than cash.
Cable Beach is several miles west of Nassau. Arrange transport rather than treating it as the beach just outside the cruise gate. A hotel or beach club pass has its own access conditions.
Compare an excursion with exploring independently
You do not need a booked tour for a downtown walk. For a beach pass or boat trip, check the actual transfer, admission, food, equipment, cancellation terms and return protection. A day pass does not automatically include meals or every pool.
For water activities, ask about the operator's licences, insurance and safety arrangements, and follow weather warnings. The State Department cautions that Bahamian water tour operators are not consistently regulated. Our excursion booking comparison explains the different return protections.
Current safety advice
The US travel advisory issued July 28, 2026 calls for increased caution in The Bahamas because of crime. It warns about violent crime and assaults on or near downtown Nassau beaches. A busy tourist street is not a safety guarantee.
Keep belongings attended, stay aware of your surroundings and follow local beach and weather warnings. Review the latest advisory before your visit; avoid relying on an old passenger report as a current risk assessment.
Leave time to return
Use the ship's all aboard time and leave a buffer for transport and boarding. Check ship time versus local time before using your phone as the boarding clock. If you prefer a day aboard, check the rules for staying on the ship rather than assuming you must book an outing.
Frequently asked questions
Can I pay with US dollars in Nassau?
US dollars are widely accepted at the same value as Bahamian dollars. Confirm payment before a taxi ride or purchase. Atlantis is cash free, so bring a card if visiting the resort.
