Galveston Parking and Arrival Guide
Galveston cruise parking and transfers depend on your terminal. Reserve parking for the correct ship and date, and follow that terminal's current traffic instructions. If you fly, Houston Hobby and George Bush Intercontinental both require a road transfer to Galveston; an airport hotel shuttle does not take care of the port journey.
Houston airports and the transfer to the island
Hobby, HOU, is the closer commercial airport to Galveston. Intercontinental, IAH, may offer a better flight from your home airport, but compare the complete transfer cost before choosing it. Include luggage, child seats and both directions when pricing a private vehicle against a shared cruise coach.
Book the pickup location, not just the company name. Staying at an airport hotel may mean returning to the airport to join the cruise line's transfer. That plan involves two vehicles; it is different from a coach collecting you at your hotel.
The island trolley helps with local sightseeing, but the port says it does not stop at the cruise terminals. Treat your trip to the ship as a separate transfer.
Where to stay before sailing
A Galveston hotel gets the Houston to island journey done before boarding day. The Strand area suits a stay around the historic downtown; the Seawall suits time by the beach. Neither label guarantees a walk to your ship, especially when your terminal is farther along the waterfront.
A Houston airport hotel can suit a late flight, but leaves the island transfer for the morning. For any hotel parking package, get the number of included nights and the shuttle's actual terminal coverage in writing. A room with ordinary overnight parking is not permission to leave a car for the cruise.
Parking and terminal traffic
Use the port's official parking booking options to compare the facilities offered for your sailing. Compare the full reservation total with independent lots, including taxes, shuttle charges and any vehicle size limits. A location convenient for terminals 25 and 28 need not be convenient for terminals 10 or 16.
For an economy lot, use the included parking shuttle; for a facility advertised as suitable for walking, check that it serves your assigned terminal. Follow your parking confirmation for the luggage procedure. Construction has previously changed the approach to terminals 25 and 28, so an old traffic map is not a substitute for the latest notice.

Boarding and the return journey
Leave time for the parking or transfer step before your assigned terminal arrival. Keep travel documents and medications with you while checked bags go to the porters.
Arrange the return pickup point before leaving home. The ship still has to clear passengers after docking, and the drive back to either Houston airport remains ahead of you. Add transport and parking to the full cruise cost when comparing Galveston with another home port.

Construction has changed terminal approaches in the past, so use your current arrival notice and parking confirmation instead of a curbside routine remembered from an earlier cruise.
Is a Galveston hotel within walking distance of the ship?
Some hotels are near parts of the waterfront, but the cruise terminals are spread out. Match the hotel address to your assigned terminal and the actual pedestrian route, with your luggage and mobility needs in mind. A Seawall or downtown address alone does not establish a practical walk, and a parking package may require a shuttle.
