What Are the Cheapest Months to Cruise?
No month is reliably cheapest for every cruise. Dates worth comparing depend on the region, school calendars, ship, route and available rooms. Use seasonal windows as shopping prompts, then compare matched quotes rather than treating a calendar as proof of a bargain.
Dates to put beside each other
- For the Caribbean, compare departures around school holidays with weeks your party can travel outside those breaks.
- For Alaska, compare sailings near the beginning and end of the published season with midsummer departures.
- For the Mediterranean, compare the actual spring, summer and autumn schedules that include the ports you want.
- For a one way ship move, compare the complete repositioning trip, including travel at both ends.
These comparisons do not rank the months by price. Different ships, cabin availability and itineraries can reverse the result. Passenger price reports also reflect different booking dates and benefits, so they cannot establish the cheapest month for your trip.
Keep the comparison consistent
Use the same guests, cabin type, currency and fare benefits where possible. Record when you obtained the quote. Compare the number of nights and useful port hours before deciding a lower total is better value.
The price tracking guide explains what to record. An observed price difference between unrelated sailings does not prove a seasonal discount.

These are advertised cruise fares, not a booking quote or a full trip budget. The agent must confirm availability, fare terms and the final price; travel, insurance, gratuities and optional extras may cost more.
How these examples are calculated
One lowest eligible advertised cabin fare per sailing; USD per person with taxes included, based on two guests sharing one cabin. Observations must be no more than two days old. Examples are the lowest matching totals in our catalog, not a claim about the entire market. Prices are rounded in our website export; availability and optional extras require confirmation.
Price the tradeoffs
Check flights, hotels, port transfers and the costs of missing school or work. Investigate weather and opening schedules for the particular destinations, rather than assuming all spring or autumn ports have the same conditions.
Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1 through November 30. That is a weather planning fact, not evidence that every sailing in those months costs less. Read the hurricane season tradeoffs before buying a trip that depends on specific stops.
Choose an available trip you can afford and want to take. A calendar label does not predict future fares or make a poor fit into a saving.
