Where Do Cruises From Miami Go?

By The Fathom Fares Team · Published Aug 29, 2026 · Updated Sep 5, 2026 · Cruising From US Home Ports

Miami cruises sail to the Bahamas and the eastern, western and southern Caribbean, with longer voyages including Panama Canal and repositioning routes. Choose the places you want to visit and the time you want aboard. A short Bahamas trip and a longer island itinerary offer different holidays even when both are marketed as Caribbean cruises.

Short Bahamas sailings

Three and four night options can include Nassau and a cruise line's private destination. Check the named stops because each line has different arrangements. A short trip gives you fewer days away but also less time to explore a large ship.

Our short cruise guide helps you weigh the length. Add flights, a hotel and ground transport before assuming the shortest sailing is the best value; those costs remain even when you spend fewer nights aboard.

Caribbean routes

Eastern itineraries can include Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. Western itineraries can head toward Mexico, the Cayman Islands and Central America. Southern routes can reach Aruba, Bonaire or Curacao.

The Caribbean route comparison explains the destinations. Neither side automatically gives you more port days; count the calls and read the arrival and departure times on the specific sailing. Private destination visits also vary by line and route.

Longer and one way voyages

Miami is also a departure point for longer itineraries. For any Panama Canal voyage, distinguish a full transit from a partial transit or a port visit. For a repositioning trip, identify the final port before choosing a return flight.

A repositioning cruise can make travel home different from the outbound journey. Include that cost, and avoid leaving a car at PortMiami without a plan to collect it afterward.

Airports and where to stay

Miami International is closer to the port than Fort Lauderdale airport. Either can suit your flights, but compare the complete transfer cost. Downtown or Brickell works for a city stay, an airport hotel for a late arrival, and Miami Beach for beach time with a separate drive to the ship.

Public transit is possible through rail, Metromover and the Coral Way trolley. Allow for waiting time, luggage and the walk to your particular berth. Our Miami arrival guide covers that route, hotel transfers and terminal parking.

Choosing a departure

The Miami fare page shows the sailings we cover, rather than every ship on the port calendar. Match the route, cabin and total holiday cost before booking, then use the terminal named in your current cruise documents for transportation.

These are advertised cruise fares, not a booking quote or a full trip budget. The agent must confirm availability, fare terms and the final price; travel, insurance, gratuities and optional extras may cost more.

How these examples are calculated

One lowest eligible advertised cabin fare per sailing; USD per person with taxes included, based on two guests sharing one cabin. Observations must be no more than two days old. Examples are the lowest matching totals in our catalog, not a claim about the entire market. Prices are rounded in our website export; availability and optional extras require confirmation.

Frequently asked questions

Does every Miami cruise return to Miami?

No. Many are round trips, but longer voyages can finish at another port. Read the first and last days of the itinerary before buying flights or parking. A one way sailing may suit your plans well, but it needs a separate journey home and a way to recover any car left at the departure port.

Is PortMiami one cruise terminal?

PortMiami has multiple lettered terminals and different parking facilities within the port. Your ship’s boarding documents identify the one you need. Use that terminal when booking a transfer or looking for parking, rather than relying on a general port address or the berth used by the same cruise line on a previous trip.

Should I choose a Bahamas or Caribbean itinerary?

Choose the actual stops and amount of time ashore that you want. A short Bahamas trip can suit limited vacation time; a longer Caribbean route may reach islands farther away and add sea days. Read the daily itinerary rather than using the regional label alone, and compare the full travel cost for your group.
