About this port

Cruise ships dock at one of three separate piers here, and only one of them, Punta Langosta, puts you within walking distance of San Miguel's town square, waterfront shops and restaurants. The other two, Puerta Maya and the International Pier, are a short, inexpensive taxi ride from downtown rather than a walk — worth knowing before you plan a day around wandering into town on foot. For most travelers the real draw here isn't the town anyway: Palancar and Columbia reefs, both reachable on a short boat ride, are among the best shore-accessible snorkeling and diving in the Caribbean, and that's what fills most excursion lists out of this port. If your ship docks at Puerta Maya or the International Pier and you still want the town, the passenger ferry and licensed taxis both run regularly and cost a few dollars — not worth skipping San Miguel over, just worth planning a few extra minutes for.
